In order for us to be able to create a good advert for our Digipak, we have t do some research so that we know what artists of the same genre do so we can take inspiration from them. As we have picked an Arctic Monkeys song, i decided to analyse an advert from them.
There is a big bold title right in the middle of the page, therefore meaning that it's the first thing you see when looking at it. There isn't much writing on this advert as it's more about the band and the way they are standing. There is small writing on the bottom of the advert talking about the new album and the release date, which is something that all adverts should include for a new album.
I really like the idea of having a big and bold title as it lets the audience know straight away who the band is and gives off sort of an idea of the band and what sort of music they create.
I really like the colouring of this advert cover as it goes well with the genre of the band. However, the colour is a gold/yellow. Therefore resembling illumination, love, passion and wisdom. The colours represent the band and what their intentions are with their music. The colour of the writing is also quite significant as it works really well with the rest of the advert. On the other hand, the white writing of the release date makes it stand out against the gold background, thus meaning that it's an eye catcher, making the audience want to know what it says.
The positioning of the band is very important as it shows the audience who is the main singer, who the guitarist is and so on. The fact that all of the members of the band are looking off into the distance is also making this advert be more classy. A lot of other adverts either have no image of the band, or an image of the band but the members making direct contact with the camera. However, this advert does not, meaning that it creates more of an eary effect.
I quite like the positioning of the band, as it shows that they are looking off into the distance, giving off the effect that they are professionals and know what they are doing. Another reason for why i like the positioning is that they aren't looking directly into the camera, meaning that we can't really see what they're feeling, giving off a sense of them being unknown.
Overall, this advert is quite bland as it doesn't really include a lot of writing for things such as 'available on itunes' or a barcode etc. And because this doesn't include the main features that it should, it's not something that we will be taking inspiration from.

Advert Analysis: The Wombats - The Modern Glitch
This is another example of the band that also have a big title of the band on their advert, again, showing that it's their name to the audience so they get a better understanding of who they are. The style of the writing also kind of foreshadows what their music is going to be like as this font type seems quite childish almost as there are parts which seem to be in capitals and others which are smaller. The fact that the same font has been used all throughout this advert implies consistency through the album. I think it's quite a useful effect when doing this as it keeps it all the same and not all over the place.
The colour scheme of this advert is quite bright and youthful, resembling the band. Having researched multiple band adverts, I can honestly say that many of them have chose colours which have resembled the band members themselves. However, the colour blue implies depth and stability. It's considered beneficial to the mind and body, showing what The Wombats want to do for their audience. The addition of the colour white, the border around the image, makes it stand out a whole lot more as it contrasts really well, I feel that these two colours are successful themselves but when put together, it makes the page, or in this case advert, pop.
This image in the advert seems to be off a bunch of people holding an image of what looks like a sunset standing/sitting on the beach. There also seems to be another hand holding the photo of the people holding photos giving off the effect that the image is actually an image, and not reality. I really like this as it's very unique and could have a really strong meaning behind it. One of the meanings that I think it could mean, is relating to memories and how the band influences their audience by showing their lives to them. This is something that a lot of bands do, but whilst doing this, they're normally on the front cover of the advert, looking away from the camera. So to see an image of multiple people holding images seems quite strange, yet very remarkable.
Advert Analysis: Arctic Monkey's AM
The advert on the left clearly matches the digipak (which I analysed earlier), and gives a sense to the bands fans about how the album is going to look like etc.
However, the poster on the right is different to what we have seen before, a picture of the lead singer, Alex Turner, take up about 75% of the poster. This defies some of the conventions we have examined previously, as in most of the digipaks there are no pictures of the band at all. It does follow other conventions though- the lead singer is responsible for the image of the band, and he is performing, rather than posing, maintaining the 'only caring about the music' attitude. The picture also includes some of the band's fans, which follows the idea of the band genuinely caring about people who like their music.

Our Band: Why we chose Superego and what it means
Superego refers to the tripartite personality which consists of the id, ego and superego. The superego is the morality principle which controls our impulses created by the id. This is a Freudian theory which was from the Victorian times and makes our band look good as Freud was a psychologist and was quite pretentious as are indie people in bands.
From another point of view. Superego could also mean cocky or big-headed, so it has a double meaning.

Advert Analysis: The 1975's I Like It When You Sleep for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It
The 1975 were a critical success after the release of their debut, self titled album. Speculation had been going on for months about an upcoming sophomore album when the first adverts/promotion came out.
On 1 June, the band's Twitter accounts were deleted, which caused mass speculation from both fans and media alike that the band had broken up. On 2 June, Healy tweeted again, but revealed a cryptic and symbolic comic strip containing the message that the band had gone on hiatus. A blurred Instagram picture from Healy titled "The 1975-2" set anticipation for release. The same day, the social media accounts were reinstated.
The tweet by Healy was verified as the name for their second album later in October 2015 with "Love Me" (a "very funky new single") released on 8 October.
Titles of songs were put in cities where fans could upload pictures of the band's new theme or aesthetic. Until eventually, the name of the album was released in the same neon pink lighting.
Advert Analysis: Catfish and the Bottlemen's The Balcony
The album's release posters are slightly unusual- they contain graphics similar to the ones on the front cover of their album, that either link to the song's lyrics or the music video. The fact that the posters look so much like the album quickly creates a theme or aesthetic that the band's fans will instantly recognize and relate to Catfish and the Bottlemen.

advert analysis: kings of leon
This advert is from Kings of Leon's album Only by the Night. It has a basic colour scheme of green and black with some red at the bottom saying out now to grab people's attention. The green is like a night vision camera which is similar to owl as owls are nocturnal which looks good as the album is called Only by the Night. The photo on the front is the lead singer as they are usually considered the most important member and are usually forefront when doing any photos.
I like the theme of this advert and could take some ideas from it like the consistency throughout with everything focused on nigh and linking everything together.
