Digipak Analysis: Coldplay: Viva La Vida

The writing is bold and catchy, bringing the attention straight to it. The image resembles a war scene which is quite unique as i don't think I've seen any other artists do this.
Although we really like the idea of having a bold writing for the name of the album, we decided to just make the writing fancy yet bold at the same time. As we are having the name of the song/band framed, it's still a unique way of presenting them.

Having photos of each members of the band on part of their Digipak is a really effective way of the audience who don't really listen to their music, establish them well and get to see who they are and how they take their music seriously, by the way they are all playing an instrument. However, the band themselves also appear on the front cover, in the war scene which i think is an amazing idea as it could resemble something meaningful to the band themselves. On the other hand, it could mean something completely different to us, the audience, which is what i like about it.
We've thought about having single photos of each members of our band, but we feel as though it would be better just to have them all sitting together on a sofa looking rather professional. This gives the audience a sense of pride, showing that the band is working well together and have a connection with the world.

The colour spectrum used in this Digipak is mainly black and gold with hints of white. They may have picked these specific colours as they all resemble something individually. For example, gold resembles love, compassion, courage and passion. All of which is what Coldplay represent as a band. White is associated with light and innocence, as it's considered to be the colour of perfection. It means safety and purity, as opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. The black is to resemble strength and empowerment, all of these colours represent qualities that the band have together.
Having looked at this Digipak, and gained some inspiration from the colours that were used, i think that we are going to be using quite similar colours as we want our band to come off as a band who can inspire others to feel empowered. Although we have a plan of what we are going to be doing for our Digipak, we haven't really thought fully about the colours to be used, but this Coldplay one has given us some sort of idea.
