Advert

We have done some of our advert now an have started to add some colour.  All we now need to do it take a photo for the advert.  We are taking inspiration form Arctic Monkey's AM advert.

Digipak and Advert deadline

Considering our deadline for the Digipak and Advert is on Friday the 8th at 4:30pm, we only have 2 full days to make sure that we have all our photos and images that we need to be able to edit it and design on the computers on InDesign. We have the basic outline of where everything is going, as well as the fonts that we want to use, it's just the images that we need to take.
So we have asked our lead singer, Callum, when he is next available so that we are able to take them, and then we can finally edit the rest of our Digipak and Advert. The conversation we had is below;

Canvas Photos

While other members of our group were working on the advert and digipack layout, I took pictures of the canvas artwork we done. So I went to a separate studio room and took pictures of all four canvases, with different angles and close ups.

Digipak fonts

For our Digipak ,we decided that we wanted to keep the same font as our advert as we wanted it all to tie and link together well. However, by making slight changes to the thickness of the font for our Digipak, has made such a difference as it's made it more bolder, and we think that we are going to keep it this way, as it matches the genre of our band really well.
However, by adding thick and thin lines through the words adds to the composition as this way, it looks like it's been placed there for a reason. The thicker lines above and below the name of the band, help center the audience's eye away from everything else on the page, and towards the name of the band, establishing who they are. 

Planning for canvas photos

We had an idea of taking photo of melted crayons for our digipak as a running theme throughout.  Tomorrow, David and Cora are going to be taking the photos and melting the crayons.  In our facebook group chat, we were planning everything and David is going to buy everything form Wilko and then they are going to Cora's house to melt the crayons.

Digipak ideas

 As we did some research and did a blog about our Digipak inspiration, we decided to experiment with some crayons and melted them onto a canvas. As you can see, we did 4 separate ones, each showing a different pattern. However, as they have turned out quite well, we feel as though we may do a few more just so that we can pick a favourite out of them all.
We had originally planned to have a silhouette of a seasaw in the middle of the canvas, amongst the melted crayons, to represent our band.

Each of these canvases have been done in different ways and all link in with our band. For example, the very last picture of the canvas links in with our music video as the main colour focus we used was black, red and blue, therefore we did a canvas on it. These are all ideas, we don't have a set one as we may re-do a few of them as we want to be sure of it.

Creating our Canvases

On Saturday night, David and I used some crayons, canvases and my hairdryer to create the art that we had in mind to use for our digipak.

We taped crayons onto the top of the canvas, then used the hairdryer to melt the crayons, which created a splatter effect. This look was quite difficult to achieve, as the colours from the crayons would mix together to create a kind of murky colour, and sometimes the wax would dry before we had finished adapting its shape, so it occasionally looked a little odd.

It took us a few attempts until we were happy with our piece, and then it took a while to clean all the wax off my kitchen floor.
